It is estimated that, India is home to about 2.43 million people living with HIV/AIDS with a prevalence of 0.36%. Half of the entire new HIV infections world wide is among the young people aged between 15-24 years. Recent reports indicate that, 5.2 lakh people are living with HIV/AIDS in Andhra Pradesh with a prevalence of 1.06%. It is disturbing to note that, despite of best efforts, more than 90% of the HIV infections are occurring through unprotected sex. The high prevalence of HIV is attributed to the presence of large number of Sexually Transmitted Infections, low condom usage, vast net work of high ways and more specifically large number of young girls being trafficked.
